At The OB/GYN Group of Austin, one of the most rewarding aspects of what we do is forming caring relationships with our patients. We make it our goal to provide the best care for our patients and strive to be their partner for a lifetime of care.
Dr. Megan McCoin joined The OB/GYN Group of Austin in August of 2012 following her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brown University in Rhode Island. Before her residency, Dr. McCoin attended medical school at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX along with our newest provider, Dr. Claire Hoverman. Through their medical school connection, Dr. McCoin was able to refer Dr. Hoverman to The OB/GYN Group of Austin, and now we are lucky to have two exceptional providers from the UT Health Science Center.
Not only are they friends from medical school, but Dr. McCoin actually delivered Dr. Hoverman’s baby! At The OB/GYN Group of Austin, we love to see our providers creating lasting relationships with their patients as well as their fellow providers. Recently, Dr. McCoin and Dr. Hoverman participated in the Crater Lake Rim Run Half Marathon together as well. An avid runner, Dr. McCoin is passionate about helping other women maintain a healthy lifestyle based on their specific needs.

What drew you to The OB/GYN Group of Austin?
I wanted to return to Texas and I felt like the doctors at The OB/GYN Group of Austin were a good group of people to work with. I wanted to work at a larger hospital that had a level 3 NICU and was in an urban area, and they seemed like the perfect fit. A level 3 NICU is able to care for babies born at less than 32 weeks of the pregnancy and babies born with a critical illness, which allows me to better serve all of my patients and their babies’ needs.
What would you like every patient to know?
I’m great at listening. Also, I definitely like the patient to be involved in their healthcare and decision-making, so I try to work with every patient and make it more of a collaboration than me telling my patient what she needs to do.
What is your favorite part of your workday?
I’d say my two favorite parts of my workday are catching up with my established patients and delivering a baby of a patient I’ve taken care of throughout their pregnancy. It’s very rewarding to be there for someone’s entire pregnancy and then help deliver the baby when the time comes.
What daily healthy habits do you practice?
I exercise a lot! From a young age, I realized my passion for running through cross country and to this day I still love it and participate in many races. In addition to running, I make sure to eat a healthy breakfast every morning to start my day off right.
What most excites you about the future of women’s health care?
There’s a lot of new genetic testing that is quite interesting and exciting, prenatal diagnosis is also pretty fascinating. New advancements in technology have allowed me to help my patients in ways that weren’t possible in the past.
